PeaceHealth news
WANT TO SAY thanks for the compassionate
care you or a family member received at a
PeaceHealth hospital or clinic? Recognize a
particular caregiver for excellent work? Or
just share your story? You can do so through
the Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation’s
Guardian Angel program.
You can acknowledge the efforts of the
caregiver, with or without an accompanying
donation to our foundation. Maybe it’s the
surgeon who saved your life, the nurse who
held your hand or the housekeeper who made
you smile. All our Guardian Angels are honored
during a special ceremony among their peers
TRAVELING to the Florence area? PeaceHealth
Medical Group Primary Care in Florence has a
convenient way for you to get care: walk-in
access. The walk-in clinic is an option for
people who have a primary care provider
(PCP), people without a PCP, and people who
are just visiting the Florence area or live in
neighboring communities.
“Patient response has been tremendously
positive,” says Nena Harvey, director of
PeaceHealth Medical Group operations in
Florence. “Almost all patients surveyed rate the
walk-in experience as excellent, and all survey
participants indicated they would like walk-in
access to continue.”
The walk-in clinic provides high-quality care
from board-certified physicians and caring staff
when prompt medical attention is needed for
non-life-threatening conditions such as:
■■■■■
Sore throat and strep throat
■■■■■
Sinus infections
■■■■■
Cough or fever
■■■■■
Urinary tract infections
■■■■■
Earache
■■■■■
Seasonal allergies

■■■■■
Skin conditions
■■■■■
Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
■■■■■
Joint pain
■■■■■

Headaches, including migraines
The staff at the walk-in clinic is also
available for general checkups.
Care on the go
The electronic medical record (EMR) at the
walk-in clinic is the same EMR that is used at
other PeaceHealth facilities in Oregon. Patients
can be seen in the valley or at the coast and
know that their medical history is traveling
with them.
The walk-in clinic is located just off
Highway 101 on Ninth Street in Florence,
inside the 380 Primary Care Building. The
clinic opens at 8 a.m. on weekdays.
No appointment is necessary, but
appointments are still available for people
who live in the Florence area. Patients who
prefer to schedule a visit with a physician
should call their primary care physician for an
appointment as they always have.

A patient gives thanks
Here’s what Teresa Labarbera, a gastric bypass
surgery patient in May 2012, had to say about
her care at Sacred Heart:
“After my gastric bypass, I was having a lot
of pain, and Kayley Saxon, RN, made every
effort above and beyond normal care to make
sure I was feeling more comfortable. She
checked me to make sure the pain medication
was starting to work and to make sure I was
given pain medication when it was needed.
Each and every person I’ve had contact with
during this journey has been so kind and
thoughtful. Thank you to all of you!”
